The reason we need Super Finder is because Windows Search won’t look inside <bracketed> code. It’ll find normal text in the various WordPress files, but we often need to search for the actual commands, which are often in brackets.
The new version is now Crippleware so here’s an older version that works just fine. It’s just a Next-Next-Next install.
Setup
Run the program:
- Click on the ‘Setup’ tab and uncheck the ‘Automatic Check…’ box.
- Click on the ‘Search for…’ tab and check the ‘Smart Search’ box.
- Check the ‘Exclude’ box and delete the two entries in the box below. Then paste this into the box:
*.zip ; *.rar ; *.jpg ; *.gif ; *.bmp ; *.wmv ; *.flv ; *.avi ; *.mpg ; *.mp3 ; *.wma ; *.wav
That’ll keep it from wasting time searching through binary files. If you have other binary files in your ‘Web’ folder, add their file extensions to the list.
Usage
If you’re searching for a file by name, that’s the top box. If you’re looking for a keyword inside a file, that’s the ‘Find Content’ box.
One extremely helpful feature is the "Ignore Case" button. Normally, this would be on, but if you’re trying to find which page is generating the "Comment:" line, turning off the "Ignore Case" can really help. There might be a dozen cases where it’s something like "Please add your comment:", but only one case where it stands by itself and is capitalized.
One nice thing about the program is that, like Windows Search, the displayed files are actually the files, not just a generated list. As such, you can double-click on them to open them or click on them with the right mouse button and perform all the usual functions, like the SendTo command.
